Behold Your Mother
In this talk, Tim speaks of the many layers of meaning to the powerful words of our Lord from the cross when he said to St. John, in the place of all of us, standing at the foot of the cross with the Mother of God, “Behold: your mother!”
Jesus here gave to all of us two great gifts that he knew he alone could not provide for us. In fact, these are two gifts that God cannot be for us. First, Jesus knew we needed a mother, but that he could never be that for us. Indeed, God is Father, not mother. Tim will explore just what this means for all of us in our spiritual lives. Second, Jesus knew he could not be a disciple of Jesus. Jesus can be a lot of things, but he can’t be a disciple of himself. And yet, Jesus knows we need mentors—disciples—to look up to on our journey of faith. Here, Jesus gave us the perfect disciple in his mother and ours.
Tim will take you from these two points toward an examination of how we not only need the gift of Mary—the perfect mother and disciple—for our spiritual lives, but that we need each other as members of the body of Christ. Get ready for quite a ride in this talk that takes you from Mary to the communion of saints and into eternity!
