When Was Mary Born?

Question:

When was Mary born?

Answer:

There is no firm evidence on when the Blessed Mother was born. But if, as tradition holds, Mary was in her later teenage years when she married Joseph and conceived Jesus, this would tell us roughly when she was born, i.e., late in the B.C. (Before Christ) era.

For more information on the Blessed Mother, including on how her birth was prophesied according to the Protoevangelium of James, see our tract “Mary, Ever Virgin.” For further background on Mary’s heritage, see this article.
