Which Women Were at Christ’s Tomb on Easter Sunday?

Mark 16:1 says they were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome.

Mary Magdalene is, of course, one of Christ’s first and closet women disciples, from whom seven demons had been exorcised (Luke 8:2).

Mary the mother of James is not the mother of Jesus, as many modern-day Protestants believe, but another Mary who is elsewhere also identified as the mother of a son, Joseph (Matt. 13:55-56, Mark 15:40). Salome is a disciple who, like Mary Magdalene, also witnessed the crucifixion (Mark 15:40). The parallel passage on the crucifixion in Matthew 27:56 conveys she is the mother of the apostles James and John and thus the wife of Zebedee.
