When an Unbaptized Spouse Is Baptized

Question:

When my wife and I got married in a civil ceremony, she was unbaptized. Since then, she has gone through RCIA and has received the sacraments. Is our marriage sacramental?

Answer:

Baptism is the gateway to the other sacraments. In a marriage between a baptized person and an unbaptized person, the marriage becomes sacramental when the unbaptized person is baptized. Presuming that there were no impediments to your marriage, such as a previous marriage, then your marriage became a sacramental marriage when your wife was baptized.
