What if I can’t believe God will forgive all the awful things I’ve done?

Question:

I have gone to confession and prayed to God, but I don’t believe I could ever be forgiven because of the abominations I’ve done. I feel I’m unforgivable. How can I escape this inner fear and self-loathing?

Answer:

Ask the Lord to make up for your lack. Certainly, nothing—absolutely nothing—could be worse than putting Jesus to death. Yet he willingly endured this to show us how much he loves us, even with our sins. His love is stronger and greater than the worst evil. So you are home free. Accept it! Reality is stronger than feelings.
