Use of God’s Holy Name

Question:

Where does the Church ask that we not use the holy name of God? What about encountering the name in Scripture?

Answer:

The Church does not prohibit the use of God’s name but rather the misuse of his name, including the grave wrongdoing of invoking God’s name to give strength to a falsehood through perjury (CCC 2150ff.)
