Loving God Is a Decision

Question:

What if I’m indifferent to God? I can’t say I ever feel love for him.

Answer:

I infer you believe in God. Given that, we can have dry periods during which God seems distant. The great saints experienced such times. Here we’re reminded that love at its core is not a feeling to which we’re subject but a commitment for which we’re held accountable. So if you are persevering in following God’s commandments (see John 8:31-32), you can be certain you’re loving God. That’s what matters most.

Meanwhile, humbly ask God to help you grow in love of him, particularly through the reception of the Eucharist. Indeed, every reception of the Eucharist should be an intimate encounter with our risen Lord. Also, you can grow closer to God by spending time with other believers, particularly your family members and friends.
