How to Accept Criticism?

Question:

How do I accept criticism when preaching about my faith?

Answer:

The first thing we need to do when receiving criticism is have the humility to reflect on whether there is any truth in the criticism. This can be difficult when we have the best of intentions, but other people can’t see our intentions, so we always need to take into consideration how we are perceived.  We also need to remember that while sometimes what we are saying makes sense in our own head, it might not come across the same way to others.

Sharing our faith is similar to explaining anything else in life.  We need to understand our audience and how they process information.

If, however, after reflection we come to the realization that we have presented our faith in a reasonable, loving, appropriate manner, then there really is nothing else that God has asked us to do. We can have confidence that we fulfilled our Christian duty and leave the rest to God’s hands.
