How Does the Trinity’s Inner Love Work?

Question:

Why don’t we ever hear that the Holy Spirit loves that Father and Jesus and vice-versa?

Answer:

Scripture tell us that God is one and yet three divine persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. St. John affirms that “God is love” (1 John 4:8, 16). And so the Church has always proclaimed the love between the Triune persons.

Consequently, the Church teaches that “God himself is an eternal exchange of love, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and he has destined us to share in that exchange” (CCC 221).
