Finders Keepers, Watchers Weepers

Question:

I have heard about this series on Netflix called "The Keepers." What does the Church say about this show?

Answer:

The Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights has strongly panned the series, largely because it implies—without providing any substantive evidence—that the Archdiocese of Baltimore was involved in a cover-up regarding sex-abuse and murder.

The series involves the murder of a nun, Sr. Cathy Cesnik, who went missing in November 1969, and it “invites the audience to consider whether she was killed to cover up sexual abuse at the high school where she worked, Archbishop Keough in Baltimore.” There was a sexually abusive priest at the time, Fr. Joseph Maskell, but his criminal conduct did not come to light until 1992. For more on this issue, see the Catholic League’s press release.
