Everyone’s Sins Revealed

Question:

Will we get to see everyone’s sins at Jesus’ Second Coming?

Answer:

Yes. With regard to the General Judgment, the Catechism of the Catholic Church states:

In the presence of Christ, who is Truth itself, the truth of each man’s relationship with God will be laid bare. The Last Judgment will reveal even to its furthest consequences the good each person has done or failed to do during his earthly life (1039).

It would seem that if we’re going to know the consequences of everyone’s sins, then it follows that we would also know the sins themselves. The Catechism makes this point even clearer in paragraph 639:

Then will the conduct of each one and the secrets of hearts be brought to light.

One of the scriptural passages that the Catechism references here is 1 Corinthians 4:5:

Therefore, do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then every man will receive his commendation from God.

So, we can confidently answer the question in the affirmative: we will know the sins of others at the Second Coming of Christ and the General Judgment.

It’s important to note, however, that this in no way implies that we will experience shame in other people knowing our sins. The righteous will rejoice in God’s mercy as well as in his power manifested in how he brought about good from our sins.
