Don’t Live with a Cohabiting Couple

Question:

Is it wrong for me to flat with a couple who are cohabiting?

Answer:

You’re probably familiar with the adage, “Actions speak louder than words.” In that light, please don’t rent with a cohabiting couple, as any words you charitably share about the problematic nature of their relationship will be overshadowed by your choice to live with them.

Certainly, continue to be their friend so that you can continue to witness to them. And if money is an issue, seek out a room at a rooming house, or with several guys committed to the moral life, or even with a family with children. And if your friends ask why you won’t move in them, tell them, “I love you. And, because I love you, I don’t want to support you in an uncommitted relationship that involves intimate acts that logically call—for various reasons—for a permanent commitment between the participants.”
