Question:
Is it permissible to have an award ceremony during Mass?
Answer:
In the General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM), the Church provides that announcements may be made after the prayer after Communion (166, 184). Some might argue that announcements might include the giving of faith-related awards, e.g., honoring certain parishioners for important achievements.
Any such giving of awards should be faith-related, reverently executed, and carried out in an efficient manner in keeping with the solemn nature of the Mass.
