Joseph Smith

Joseph Smith is a partner in the Denver office of Bartlit Beck Herman Palenchar & Scott LLP. He earned his undergraduate degree from Yale College, cum laude and with Distinction in the Philosophy Major. He earned his law degree from the University of Chicago, where he was a Bradley Fellow in Law and Government, president of the Federalist Society, and chairman of the Edmund Burke Society. Smith served as Colorado’s Deputy Attorney General for Natural Resources in 1997–98. He is an alumnus of both the American Council on Germany’s Young Leader Conference and the U.S. Department of Defense’s Joint Civilian Orientation Conference. Smith also sits on the Board of Trustees of the Independence Institute, a think tank located in Golden, Colorado; and he previously served in the leadership of the American Bar Association’s Section of Litigation.  He lives in Denver with his wife, Mary, and their son Joe III.
