There’s So Much You Don’t Know About Angels
New book explains the full truth about the awesome spiritual beings all around us
SAN DIEGO: Angels are everywhere: in the universe and in our popular culture. Who doesn’t love them? And yet, as much as they adorn our t-shirts, appear in our movies, and are name-checked in our love songs, the sad fact is that most people—even most Christians—actually know very little about what they’re really like.
A new book from Catholic Answers Press aims to fix that. In Angelic Answers: What You Need to Know About God’s Heavenly Messengers, Guardians, and Guides, Fr. Mike Driscoll unpacks the fascinating world of angelology in a uniquely comprehensive and relatable way.
Father Driscoll (author of the bestselling Demons, Deliverance, and Discernment) begins with the basics of angelic nature, explaining their awesome knowledge and powers. He relates angelic activity in Scripture and makes accessible the centuries of theological reflection on angels from Church tradition (especially the “Angelic Doctor,” Thomas Aquinas). And he reveals the many ways that angels play a role in Catholic liturgy and worship.
But Angelic Answers is not just a collection of facts. Fr. Driscoll also shows us fruitful ways to deepen our relationship with the angels, who love us and desire our salvation. And he shows how to defend ourselves against the soul-stealing works of the fallen angels: Satan’s demons.
“The truth about angels—what God has revealed and the Church has developed—is so much more magnificent than the kitschy cherubs and do-gooders that our culture has conditioned us to imagine,” says Todd Aglialoro, director of publishing for Catholic Answers. “Father Driscoll’s new book returns us to the love and respect for angels that God wants us to have.”
