A Weekend to Remember

Not even a heavy downpour could dampen the spirits of the fifty people assembling Thursday evening December 6 for our fourth Founders Circle Weekend. The purpose is to bring our most generous supporters up to speed on our plans and to pick their brains about how to best accomplish our mission.

Once Friday morning dawned bright and clear, the next two days were filled with an exhilarating mixture of work and leisure. Jon Sorensen and Christopher Check hit the highlights of 2018 and outlined our latest initiatives, and our staff apologists helped those present hone their apologetic skills.

“Catholic Answers really has come up to a new level in leveraging technology and expanding opportunities,” attendee Penelope Baumann said. “But the best part, by far, was keeping company with such smart, faithful, passionate people.”

Activities included a tour the Mission de Alcalá, California’s oldest mission, and a cruise of San Diego Bay. Friday night a beach campfire singalong broke out. The Saturday croquet tournament saw Mark and Billie Jorgensen triumph over a competitive field, and in the intensely competitive Catholic trivia game that night, Fr. Hugh and his teammates emerged victorious. After closing Mass Sunday morning, everyone agreed it had been another productive weekend.

“We always come away from these weekends with a renewed sense of purpose,” Chris Check said. He pointed out that the weekend is open to President’s Club members (a minimum $1,000 annual support) as well as Founders Circle members (a minimum of $5,000 annually).

“We would love to have five times the participants!” he said. “I wish more people could experience what a valuable time it is for both the staff and for our supporters.”
