Why Are Some Groups Not Considered Christian?

Question:

I have heard that groups that claim to follow Jesus are not true Christians. Why is this so?

Answer:

The Church accepts as Christians only those faith communities that have valid baptisms. Faith communities that do not accept the Trinity are not considered to validly baptize, because their theology of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is incompatible with the Church’s. As such, they cannot in any meaningful way be considered to intend to do what the Church does in the sacrament of baptism.

Faith communities that accept the Bible and claim to be disciples of Jesus but do not acknowledge the divinity of Jesus or the basic theology of the Trinity are not considered Christians by the Church.
