The Importance of Bethany

Question:

Why is Bethany mentioned in Luke 24:50 during the Ascension of Christ?

Answer:

The name of the town, Bethany, means both “house of figs” and “house of affliction.” Perhaps Christ chose Bethany as the site of his Ascension because it would act as a sign of hope for those suffering afflictions of every kind that they would one day rise in glory, as Christ did. You can read more about this in my blog post, The Sisters from Bethany and Their Approaches to the Spiritual Life.
