The Best Bible Translation

Listen to the audio version of this content

Question:

What is the best translation of the Bible in English, and what do you think about the Jerusalem Bible version?

Answer:

Overall, I would say that the best is the Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition. It is an accurate translation, and its use of English is literate. Of course, different translations can serve different purposes. For example, the Knox version is good for its literary qualities, even though the translation sometimes verges on paraphrase. The Jerusalem is respected for its notes, the Douay for being a good pony for the Latin Vulgate, and the King James for its setting a standard, along with Shakespeare, for the English language generally.
