Refusing First Holy Communion

Question:

How can a priest refuse my grandchild making his first Holy Communion? He attends church and a Catholic school.

Answer:

You don’t mention why the priest has refused. Do his parents attend Mass every Sunday? When a priest refuses a sacrament to a child, it is seldom if ever because of the child’s behavior.

Parents are the first teachers of the faith to their children. The most convincing lesson they can give is the daily example of their faith. I suspect that the priest had serious doubts that the latter has been taking place.
