Patron Saint of Overworked or Busy People

Question:

Is there a patron saint of people who are overworked or who are always busy?

Answer:

Martha of the Gospel of Luke (10:38-42) comes to mind. Martha complained to Jesus that her sister, Mary, by sitting at Jesus’ feet listening, had left Martha to do all the work of serving the meal. Jesus responded that Martha was busy about many things, but Mary had made the better choice, which he would not take from her. Much has been said about this passage. Jesus did not condemn the work Martha was doing, he simply said that listening to him is more important.

We all find ourselves in Martha-like activity. Such activity is necessary, but we must listen to Jesus first.
