It WAS About the Suffering

Question:

If in the Old Testament the animal sacrifice was not about the suffering but the offering, why do we say the suffering of Jesus was our salvation?

Answer:

Actually, it was about suffering in that those who sacrificed animals were doing without them. That was the whole point. They didn’t offer sickly or aged animals but animals that were of value to them. This was to show how much more they valued God.

For us humans, love is measured by sacrifice. We know how much we love others by how willing we are to put ourselves out for them. Jesus said that there is no greater love than to give one’s life for another (John 15:13). Truly the love he expressed by suffering for us is our salvation because he is God!

Unfortunately, Old Testament sacrifice came to be so ritualized that even today many see only the ritual and not the love it was meant to convey.
