How We Serve and Adore God

Listen to the audio version of this content

Question:

Why would God create humans with the sole purpose of serving and adoring him?

Answer:

God created us out of sheer generosity to give us a share in his happiness, wisdom, and power. When we make use of his gifts to us (which means all that we are, have, and can do), then we are said to serve and adore him. He does not need anything, and our service of God is nothing more than the expression of our thanks to him. He is infinite goodness, and since it is the nature of goodness to pour itself out, he makes us in order to give his gifts. He is not being demanding in seeking our service and adoration; rather, he is being generous with all he has. He even gives us his very self by grace in our souls as we become his dwelling place. Who would not be happy to serve and adore a God as good and kind as he is?
