Harry Potter Is OK

Question:

Can Catholics read the Harry Potter books or watch the movies?

Answer:

Yes, Catholics are free to read to both. Of course, this assumes that those Catholics who are considering reading or watching the series are capable of good prudential judgment in selecting reading or viewing material. It also assumes that they can make an informed decision as to whether they or their children are sufficiently mature to understand the books and movies as fantasy entertainment.
