Does St. Paul Imply Baptism Isn’t Necessary?

Question:

Paul states in 1 Corinthians 1:14-17 that he wasn’t sent to baptize but to preach; does this mean that baptism isn’t necessary?

Answer:

No. It simply means that his work was that of preparing the converts by preaching, and then another minister, the local bishop or a priest or deacon, would actually baptize them. St. Paul certainly holds elsewhere that baptism is necessary, as does the whole of the New Testament.
