Do Non-Catholics Go to Purgatory?

Question:

A priest told me that those of other faiths who do not believe in purgatory do not have to go to purgatory. How can this be?

Answer:

All who die in God’s grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation; but after death they undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven (Catechism 1030).

Note that the Catechism uses the word all and not Catholics. The priest was incorrect.
