Did Pope Francis Say This?

Question:

DId Pope Francis say that the Christmas of 2016 was going to be our "last Christmas"?

Answer:

No.

The best I can find are a few reports that do not reference any sources. The claim appears to be that Pope Francis said, “While the world starves, burns, and descends further into chaos, we should realize that this year’s Christmas celebrations for those who choose to celebrate it may be their last.” Even if these are his words—and that’s a big if—it seems to clearly be in reference to the many people caught in areas of the world that are in the midst of war and other violence. For many Christians in the Middle East and other parts of the world, it might indeed be their last Christmas, given the war, violence, and killing taking place. There is no reasonable way to read the alleged quote as directly speaking about “the end times.”

There is no possible way that God revealed this is the end times to the pope and had him “drop hints” about it. Jesus clearly stated that no man knows the hour of the end.
