Confirmation and the Brown Scapular

Question:

When you are confirmed, are you enrolled in the brown scapular?

Answer:

Not automatically or by virtue of confirmation. Confirmation is a sacrament of the Church; the brown scapular is a sacramental that some Catholics choose to wear as a sign of devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel. You can certainly ask a priest to enroll you in the brown scapular on the day of your confirmation if you like, but you will need to make separate arrangements. For more information on the brown scapular and its spiritual benefits, I recommend reading my blog post, The Sign of the Scapular.
