Catholics Not Welcome in Mecca

Question:

Is it a sin for a Catholic to visit the city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia?

Answer:

Catholics can visit any place that is not inherently immoral. Tourism and seeking to understand others are not bad things. Catholics can visit places that are not Catholic or Christian. However, Catholics should always follow the laws of the countries and places they visit. If a Catholic cannot morally follow the law of a certain place, then a Catholic should not go there. In Mecca, non-Muslims are not legally permitted, and therefore Catholics should respect those laws.
