Can I Become Catholic Before My Surgery?

Listen to the audio version of this content

Question:

I’m a baptized Episcopalian. I want to become Catholic. I’m going to have surgery for possible cancer. Could a priest allow me to become Catholic before my surgery?

Answer:

The Rite of Christian Initiation is the normal process for someone to become a Catholic but it is not the only process. You should speak to your local Catholic parish priest. If, in his judgment, the circumstances are appropriate he can expedite the process for you.
