Are Snakes Evil?

Question:

Since snakes are used in the Bible as a symbol of evil, does this mean that snakes are evil?

Answer:

No, snakes are not evil.

The reason that Scripture often uses snakes as a personification of evil is that human beings tend to be afraid of snakes. They are hard to see because they are low to the ground. They are also stealth hunters, and the bites of some are deadly. That’s generally why we have a fear of them. But those qualities of being hard to detect, great stealth hunters, and possibly deadly are also a great description of evil.
