No Hurdles to the Faith

Barbara and her family had been practicing members in the United Church of Christ. One evening her son Damon, a sixteen year old, who spent that summer back and forth from the library with books about religion, said, “I have something to tell you. I know you’re going to be upset.” Barbara thought, ‘please don’t tell me he’s going to be a Buddhist.’ Damon announced, “I’m going to be Catholic.”

Fast forward a few years and Barbara dropped her Catholic son off to enroll at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood Pennsylvania. A seminarian asked Barbara, “Why aren’t you Catholic?” Usually, there are big hurdles or little hurdles about the Faith, but Barbara had none. The next day, she entered RCIA.

When Damon became a seminarian, he started to receive Catholic Answers Magazine and he passed it on to his mother. He also loaded CA Live, the app on her phone. Barbara confesses that she’s hooked.

“I’ll hear something on Catholic Answers Live and learn something new. Then it inspires me to ask more questions. So one way or another, Catholic Answers is helping me tremendously with my faith journey because either Catholic Answers brings about an answer to questions for me or CA makes me want to ask more questions.”

Barbara is the founder of SOS – Support Our Seminarians, a small non-profit in her diocese. The group puts together “goody bags” for seminarians with basic need items as well as Catholic Answers books like Why We’re Catholic and others.
