Keating is not a particularly common name, but it is not a rare name either. There is a Governor Keating in Oklahoma, and there was a Senator Keating in New York. The Australians have had a Prime Minister Keating. Once I was introduced to an audience as Charles Keating, a slip of the tongue that gave me the opportunity for a humorous first line.
The latest Keating I have heard about actually has some connection with Catholicism. “Have you heard of Kathleen Keating?” a friend asked. “Never heard of her,” I replied. He gave me her web address, where, he thought, I would be amused by her writings. “Bemused” might be more accurate.
So far as I can figure out, Kathleen Keating is at the fringe of the Traditionalist movement, and she also is involved with things that normally are associated with the New Age movement. She writes an Internet column called “The Keating Perspective.” The first installment I came across was about the Third Secret of Fatima, which, she says, is still a secret. “I think the Pope is being gagged.” She does not like “the Vatican’s dubious release of the Third Secret.” What made the press was a “pseudo-document” and a “deception perpetrated by some in the Vatican”—not by the Holy Father himself, mind you, but by his handlers. “Pope John XXIII fainted when he read the Third Secret” because it “specifically states, according to eyewitnesses, that the Pope would betray his flock and turn his sheep over to the slaughter devised by Lucifer himself. John XXIII fainted because he thought he would be the pope who would open the door to Satan and that he would be the long-awaited antipope.”
What “long-awaited antipope”? What “eyewitnesses”? What fainting spell? What rubbish! But it gets worse.
“Paul VI was held captive for years. They don’t want us to know that. Yet it is true. Drugged and chained, Paul VI lived out his final years as a prisoner. . . . Could it be that JPII is held hostage by the devil?” Maybe so, she says.
It may not be fair, but I tend to judge people by the company they keep. Kathleen Keating keeps some odd company. In addition to her column she publishes an online newsletter called The Messenger. (The first 200 subscribers are promised a St. Benedict Medal and a holy card.) She is editor in chief. On her staff she has a woman whose title is Paranormal Editor. Another is called the Emerging Diseases Editor. A third woman is called the Alien Interaction Editor. (Her job has nothing to do with Mexicans crossing the border.)
My favorite staffer is James Bartley, whose title is Alien Civil Affairs Editor. He is described as “an abductee” and researcher on UFOs. His specialty is investigating “the Reptilian Overlordship of the Human Race.” He “works with a team of individuals who are developing resistance techniques against the Reptilians and who are devoted to disseminating meaningful information as a counter to the pervasive pro-Reptilian propaganda.”
Now I get it! Pro-Reptilian propaganda is behind the phony Third Secret. If James Bartley could be abducted by reptiles from outer space, why couldn’t Paul VI have been abducted by his disloyal aides? Why couldn’t John Paul II have been hornswoggled by underhanded lieutenants?
All I know for sure is that Kathleen Keating is a Reptilian agent out to undermine the good Keating name.
