Verse by Verse: Christ’s Second Coming

One thing we know for sure about the end of the world: Christ’s Second Coming will occur at an unknown time. Conclusion: Anyone predicting a particular date—or even trying to zero in on the approximate time—is wrong.

“So too, you also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come” (Matt. 24:44; see also Luke 12:40).

“Therefore, stay awake, for you know neither the day nor the hour” (Matt. 25:13).

“Watch, therefore; you do not know when the lord of the house is coming, whether in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrow, or in the morning. May he not come suddenly and find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to all: ‘Watch!'” (Mark 13:35- 37).

“[T]hen that servant’s master will come on an unexpected day and at an unknown hour and will punish him severely and assign him a place with the unfaithful” (Luke 12:46).

“For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief at night. When people are saying, ‘peace and security,’ then sudden disaster comes upon them, like labor pains upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape” (1 Thess. 5:2-3).

“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a mighty roar and the elements will be dissolved by fire, and the earth and everything done on it will be found out” (2 Pet. 3:9-10).

“Remember then how you accepted and heard; keep it and repent. If you are not watchful, I will come like a thief, and you will never know at what hour I will come upon you” (Rev. 3:3).
