An Easter Service for After Dinner at Home

A simple and joyful way to cap off your family's celebration of the Resurrection on Easter evening

All begin by singing or reciting together the following hymn:

Jesus Christ is risen today, Alleluia!
Our triumphant holy day, Alleluia!
Who did once, upon the cross, Alleluia!
Suffer to redeem our loss, Alleluia!

Hymns of praise then let us sing, Alleluia!
Unto Christ, our heavenly King, Alleluia!
Who endured the cross and grave, Alleluia!
Sinners to redeem and save, Alleluia!

But the pain which He endured, Alleluia!
Our salvation hath procured, Alleluia!
Now above the sky He’s king, Alleluia!
Where the angels ever sing, Alleluia!

Sing we to our God above, Alleluia!
Praise eternal as His love, Alleluia!
Praise Him, all you heavenly host, Alleluia!
Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, Alleluia!

The father or leader says:

+In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit

ALL: Amen

Then the father or other chosen reader reads the lesson:

A reading from the first Letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians

Brothers and sisters:
Do you not know that a little yeast leavens all the dough?
Clear out the old yeast,
so that you may become a fresh batch of dough,
inasmuch as you are unleavened.
For our paschal lamb, Christ, has been sacrificed.
Therefore, let us celebrate the feast,
not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and wickedness,
but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

The father or leader or anyone present who wishes may say some words of thanks or praise for the present feast and the goodness to us of our Risen Savior.

Then the father or leader introduces and leads the Grace After Meals, saying:

We give thee thanks Almighty God for all thy benefits, who lives and reigns for ever and ever.

ALL: Amen.

And then ALL sum up their praise of Our Lord’s glorious resurrection by singing or saying the Regina Caeli, in Latin or in English, in this version or another if they know another:

Queen of Heaven, rejoice, Alleluia

For he whom you merited to bear, Alleluia

Has risen as he foretold, Alleluia

Pray for us to God, Alleluia

Father or Leader: Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, Alleluia!

ALL: For the Lord has risen indeed, Alleluia

Father: Let us pray:

O God who in the Resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ have willed to give joy to the whole world, grant we pray you, that through the intercession of the Virgin Mary his mother we may lay hold of the joys of eternal life. Through Christ Our Lord.

ALL: Amen
