David Matheson is director of development for Catholic Answers, leading the apostolate’s fundraising efforts. Supervising a five-person team and located remotely in Houston, he oversees all direct-mail and online appeals while also soliciting major gifts and stewarding high donors located in Texas, Virginia, the Gulf Coast, and much of the Central Plains region of the U.S.
After 19 years at Invesco, one of the world’s largest investment management companies, David joined Catholic Answers in July 2019. While at Invesco, he served in multiple roles including 13 years as Regional Vice-President for sales in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia. Invesco’s 2014 East Region RVP of the Year, he raised nearly $3 billion in sales during his career with the firm.
Prior to Invesco, David spent eight years in media relations for professional and collegiate sports organizations including the Detroit Tigers baseball club and the University of Houston and University of Georgia athletics departments.
Born in Mississippi, David holds a bachelor’s degree in sports management from the University of Virginia and calls Danville, Va., his hometown.
A 2005 convert to the Catholic faith who has a devotion to St. Catherine of Siena, David and his wife, Norma, have been married for nearly 30 years. They have three grown children―with a son and a son-in-law both serving on active duty in the U.S. military―and two grandchildren.
Before David joined the apostolate as an employee, he and Norma were Catholic Answers President’s Circle donors. They joined CA on Caribbean and St. Lawrence River cruises while also attending the annual conference and Founders Circle Weekend.
Outside of his work at Catholic Answers, David has been an official scorekeeper for Major League Baseball since 2001, having scored regular-season and playoff games in Houston, Washington, Baltimore, and San Diego. He is a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus and Past Grand Knight of St. Francis Council #11136 in Purcellville, Va.
