Jim Blackburn is a cradle Catholic who was born and raised in Illinois. After graduating from Southern Illinois University, Jim ran his own brokerage firm for twelve years. During that time, he studied Catholicism and other faiths, eventually becoming an apologist for Catholic Answers. In his time with the apostolate from 2004 to 2013, Jim supervised the Q&A department, was a regular contributor to Catholic Answers Magazine and a regular guest on the Catholic Answers Live radio program, and wrote the book 101 Quick Questions with Catholic Answers: Marriage, Divorce, and Annulment. In addition to his many years of private study, Jim earned undergraduate certificates in philosophy and theology from John Paul the Great Catholic University in San Diego, where he is working toward his master’s degree in theology.
Marriage Issues: Wedding, Divorce, Annulment, and Remarriage
Jim gets to the heart of this widely misunderstood area of Church teaching, answering simple questions that most Catholics can’t: Can Catholics marry non-Catholics? Does the Church allow divorce? Can divorced Catholics receive communion? Can they remarry? Aren't annulments just Catholic divorces? Can I attend a wedding outside the Church? Why so many rules about marriage? And more.
Defending Your Faith: Catholic Apologetics
In this talk geared toward high school students and young adults, Jim explores the teaching authority of the Catholic Church, the difference between Catholic worship and Mega-church worship, and the need for junior apologists in the Church today.
The Bible: Its History, What It Is, And What It Is Not
Jim examines the development and canonization of the Bible, as well as what the Bible has to say about itself, and how to respond to anti-Catholic claims about the Bible. Jim answers questions such as: Who determined which books go in the Bible? When? What are Bible manuscripts? Why so many different versions of the Bible? How should the Bible be interpreted? What are the various “senses” of Scripture? And more.
