Any Significance to Chapter and Verse Numbers?
Could there be any correlation between the 666 mentioned in Revelation and John 6:66? It seems way too coincidental that the source and summit of the Christian Faith is the Real Presence. Can't the mark of the beast represent the denial of the Real Presence?
The books of the Bible did not originally have chapter and verse notations. Remove all chapter and verse numbers, and that is essentially what the original books of the Bible looked like. They were merely paragraph after paragraph.
It wasn't until around the thirteenth century that chapter divisions were universally added by scribes and not until the sixteenth century that the individual verses were numbered.
While today there are general agreements as to how to divide the chapters and verses of the books of the Bible, there still are some significant differences between how Jewish tradition and various Christian traditions have noted certain books.
Given that chapter and verses in the Bible are a relatively modern and entirely human development, I would not recommend reading anything symbolic or meaningful into chapter and verse numbers.
