My pastor said when we repent; we also need to repent from the good that might have come from that sin as well. Is this true?

I’ve been reading the Early Church Fathers. It seems to me that the Eastern Orthodox have just as good a claim as the Catholics. What would be the Catholic response to this?

What makes a council “ecumenical”? Do the Catholics consider the Orthodox heretics because they only accept the first seven ecumenical councils?

I’m having trouble with Catholic dogma and have been meeting with an Orthodox priest. One of the main problems I have is believing in the Catholic view of the papacy.
