Dao is a Chinese term that literally means "path" or "way." Its precise meaning was a point of debate between Asian philosophers who each claimed to understand the term’s implications fully. The most popular use of the term dao was by the Daoists/Taoists (literally "Way-ists"), who asserted that the Dao, or Way, can have no fixed or certain meaning. Thomas Merton wrote his well-known book The Way of Chuang-tzu on one such Daoist.
