WITHIN the next few weeks you'll receive a
letter from me. Yes, it will be a form letter, but I hope you'll read
it anyway. It won't have anything to do, at least not directly, with
This Rock, but it will concern something written up in this
issue. (See page 17.)
If you've read this magazine for any length of time,
you know about Catholic Answers' work last year at World Youth Day
'93, held in Denver. There we distributed nearly a quarter of a million
copies of a special booklet, Pillar of Fire, Pillar of Truth.
We expect to print several million copies over the next two or three
years, with a large proportion in languages other than English.
We're grateful to note that Pillar of Fire,
Pillar of Truth has been well received by Catholics
and non-Catholics, even though it was intended mainly for
the former. If our mail is a fair indicator, the booklet has helped
thousands to come into or back into the faith.
Now we have an opportunity to reach even more people
with Pillar of Fire, Pillar of Truth. World Youth
Day '95 will be held in Manila in January. Organizers expect one million
people to listen to Pope John Paul II--more than double the Denver
crowd. Many of those people will travel to the Philippines from America.
We want to get the booklet into as many hands as possible, to revivify
the faith throughout the world, and we ask you to start thinking and
praying now about helping us to do that.
I'll give you the details in the forthcoming letter.
