Talks Offered by Our Speakers

New Eve, Mediatrix And Mother: Mary’s Role In God’s Plan Of Salvation
Tim Staples

Tim’s talk is the definitive response to the question: “If Mary is so important, why is it there is so little about her in Scripture and she only speaks five times?” Tim takes you through the Gospels and into the Book of Acts and the Book of Revelation showing how Mary alone among human persons was present and/or most intimately involved with each of the key events in salvation history, from the Incarnation in Luke 1:37-38, to the “birthing” of Jesus’ Ministry and the apostles in faith John 2, to the crucifixion of our Lord in John 19, to the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, to a vivid presentation of the perennial battle for souls between the world empowered by the Devil and the People of God empowered by the Holy Spirit in Revelation 12. All are guaranteed to leave this talk with both a renewed sense of the wonders God has wrought through Mary, as well as a challenge to see in Mary our own calling as Christians!

Truth Or Consequences
Tim Staples

In this talk, Tim teaches on the importance of the infallible Magisterium of the Church. Tim uses three examples in the arena of faith, and two examples from the arena of morals to show not only why the Magisterium is crucial for the salvation of souls, but what the consequences are when the Magisterium is absent. All are guaranteed to leave this talk with both a greater sense of gratitude for the gift of the teaching Church and a greater desire to share this great gift with others as well.

The Gospel Of Suffering
Tim Staples

In this talk, Tim demonstrates the profound meaning of suffering and its relationship to a Catholic and biblical understanding of justification. As Tim explains, “Jesus did not suffer and die on the cross so that we do not have to; He suffered and died on the cross so that our suffering and death can be made salvific in him.” One of the many unfortunate by products of the so-called “material principle of the Reformation,” “sola fide,” is this loss of understanding of the role of suffering in the life of Christians. This talk not only gives you the theology of salvation from a Catholic perspective, but it will touch your heart as Tim shows how the Catholic understanding of suffering brings hope and a sense of purpose to the darkest moments in the lives of Christian men and women.

Evangelization - What Is It And Why Do We Need It?
Tim Staples

This talk emphasizes evangelization as essential to the Church’s mission and identity. Evangelization is not an option for Christians; it is part and parcel of who we are as followers of Christ.

Catholics And The Culture War
Tim Staples

In this talk, Tim Staples challenges us Catholics to understand our responsibility to effect change in the culture in which we live. Tim will both paint a vivid picture of the perilous times in which we live and demonstrate just how we Catholics can engage the culture and change it without the culture changing us. The need of the hour is for Catholics to engage the culture in dialogue on every level—from Scripture to the arts, to politics, law, medicine, and more. The New Evangelization that our Holy Father has called us to involves much more than just engaging our separated brothers and members of quasi-Christian sects in biblical apologetics, though that is certainly important. Tim will show you what it means to truly confront the “culture war” in which we find ourselves engaged.

Why Be Catholic?
Tim Staples

This is actually two talks. But each talk can be given alone or together with the other. During these two talks, Tim will take you from no faith at all to the four marks of the Church. Whether you are a skeptic yourself or if you want to learn how to share your faith with someone who does not believe, this talk is for you.

In the first talk, Tim will show you how you can demonstrate the existence of God using good philosophy and good science, as well as how you can prove “beyond a reasonable doubt” the natural immortality of the human soul, Natural Law, the necessity of divine revelation, and the Catholic Christian Faith as the fullness of that divine revelation. This talk will empower you to be able to present the only antidote to what Pope Benedict XVI calls “the dictatorship of relativism”—absolute truth.

In the second talk, Tim tackles the problem of dealing with fellow Christians who agree with much of what we said above, except for the notion that the Catholic Church is the Church established by Jesus Christ with infallible authority in AD 33. Some may even say they would like for this to be true, but they just can’t buy it because of numerous teachings of the Church they cannot square with Scripture. Tim takes you through a number of the most important of these sticking points until once again the truth and beauty of the Catholic Church comes shining through.

Teen Apologetics
Tim Staples

Tim teaches teens to evangelize using two basic principles: If teens are going to be effective in evangelizing their peers, they must be prepared and disciplined both intellectually and morally. They need to first know how to answer common objections intellectually and second they must live the Faith that they profess. There is no greater test of their moral lives than in the relationships they have with members of the opposite sex! Tim concludes this talk with a challenge to chastity.

Jimmy Swaggart Made Me Catholic
Tim Staples

The story of Tim's conversion. Chronicles his journey to the Catholic Church.

The Eucharist - God’s Extravagant Love Revealed
Tim Staples

Tim defends the real presence of our Lord in the Eucharist using the text of John 6 given in its historical context. According to St. Irenaeus, in the second century, St. John had the Gnostic heretic, Cerinthus, in mind when he penned his Gospel. Tim unlocks the keys to understanding, in this context, why St. John emphasized—1. The Divinity of Christ and his equality with the Father, and 2. The true presence of Christ in the Eucharist—more than any of the other Evangelists. He did so precisely because these were two of the central points Cerinthus and his Gnostic followers denied.

Sola Scriptura - A Recipe For Confusion
Tim Staples

Tim refutes the common texts of II Tim. 3:16 and II Peter 1:20 used to demonstrate sola scriptura by Protestants. He then demonstrates from the Gospels and from the Book of Acts that Jesus Christ and the apostles did not teach or practice this central teaching of the so-called “reformers.”
