Carl E. Olson is the editor of Catholic World Report (www.CatholicWorldReport.com) and Ignatius Insight (http://www.ignatiusinsight.com) and moderator of the Insight Scoop blog (http://insightscoop.typepad.com/), all operated by Ignatius Press. He is the author/co-author of two books (and contributor to several others) and of hundreds of articles, essays, columns, and reviews published in a wide range of magazines, newspapers, and websites.
Carl grew up in a Fundamentalist Protestant home and attended Briercrest Bible College, an Evangelical school in Saskatchewan, Canada. He and his wife, Heather, were married in 1994 and entered the Catholic Church together in 1997. Their conversion story appears in the book, Surprised By Truth 3 (Sophia Institute Press, 2002). He earned a Masters in Theological Studies from the University of Dallas in 2000. His first book, Will Catholics Be “Left Behind”? A Catholic Critique of the Rapture and Today’s Prophecy Preachers (Ignatius Press, 2003) was recognized by the Associated Press as one of the best religious titles of the year. Carl is also the co-author, with medievalist Sandra Miesel, of The Da Vinci Hoax: Exposing the Errors in The Da Vinci Code (Ignatius Press, 2004). He writes the weekly “Opening the Word” Scripture column for Our Sunday Visitor, and his article, “Are the Gospels Myth?”, appeared in the collection, Catholic Controversies: Understanding Church Teachings and Events in History (Moorings Press, 2010). He is also the author of the Study Guide for Fr. Robert Barron’s acclaimed “Catholicism” series.
Carl has been a guest on numerous television and radio programs and has spoken at many conferences and parishes. Carl and Heather have three young children. In his spare time, he enjoys recreation with his family, collecting music and books, reading, playing tennis, and scouring used bookstores for hidden treasures.
