REALAUDIO

To use RealAudio

Here are the steps you need to take:

  1. Download the FREE RealAudio Player. (There is also a for-pay RealAudio player that has additional features, but the free one is sufficient to hear the show.)
  2. After you have downloaded it, install RealPlayer. Users of Windows 95 and above can do this by double-clicking the downloaded file. Then follow the instructions that appear.
  3. While on-line, practice listening with RealAudio by trying out the 24-hour programming of EWTN’s radio Internet signal.
  4. During airtime (6 P.M. Eastern Time/3 P.M. Pacific Time), go to our top page and click on the link provided there.
  5. You also can listen to past programs by going to our calendar pages.
RealAudio Help

Internet sound is still a new technology, and the bugs are still being worked out of the process. As a result, listeners may encounter difficulties in listening to sound files from the Internet. This page provides answers for some common difficulties listeners may experience.

Some of the most common listening difficulties involve file types that are identified by the short extensions following a file name. Common RealAudio extensions are: .ram, .rm, .ra. To solve some listening difficulties you need to be able to see these extensions. This is especially the case if you are having a problem with a file you have downloaded.

If your operating system is set to hide the extensions for known file types, please “unhide” them so you can tell what type of file you are dealing with. A Windows user can do this by opening his Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) and clicking “View,” then clicking “Options . . . ,” unchecking the box marked “Hide MS-DOS extensions for file types that are registered,” and clicking “OK.”

Q & A

I have problems listening to the show live. I click the link on the top page, but either I can’t make a connection or can’t maintain one.

This is most likely because of network congestion with a live Internet feed. When you click the link on the top page, you are tapping into that feed. If you experience a difficulty, the problem is with the feed (most likely, too many users are trying to access it at once) or there is too much Internet congestion between your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and the audio server on the Internet. At present, there is not much that can be done about this problem during show time. However, afterwards you can listen to that broadcast from the calendar pages.

When I download a file, it takes too long. What can I do?

The only way to speed up download times is to try downloading at a time of day (such as late at night) when the Internet is less busy. If you are having severe problems with long downloads, you could have your computer download overnight and listen to the file the next day.
