Job Description and Qualifications
Title: Web Applications Developer
Location: San Diego, California
Background:
- Our first web site, www.catholic.com, is now one of the top 10 Catholic web sites in the world.
- Our community site, forums.catholic.com, is the largest Catholic community site on the web.
- We host podcasts, audio/video libraries, interactive web applications, e-commerce, and more.
- We currently serve over 1 million visitors per month with data transfer in excess of two terabytes/month.
- We are in the process of significantly expanding our web presence this year. This includes the addition of many new web features, a dozen public/private web sites, and related infrastructure.
- As part of our web team, you can help Catholic Answers reach millions of people with the Good News of Jesus Christ as established and preserved in the Catholic faith.
Responsibilities:
- Develop solutions to meet internal/external needs from scratch (if necessary) or via modification of existing framework apps.
- Support and maintain legacy applications.
- Integrate new solutions into existing frameworks.
- Bridge web and inhouse applications.
- Work towards standardization of development platforms
- Install, configure, modify, extend, maintain, and upgrade off-the-shelf web applications.
- Report on current and projected status of all projects
- Participate in long-term strategic decision-making regarding web activities.
Technical Experience:
- Significant experience required with the following tools: MySQL; PHP 4/5; Javascript.
- Significant experience required with the following standards: HTML/SHTML; XML; CSS.
- Application experience with vBulletin, Joomla, and MediaWiki greatly preferred.
- Working knowledge of e-commerce, SEO, security issues, browser differences, web administration, parallel and mirror sites; and user permissioning schemes, all in a Microsoft server environment, preferred.
- Working knowledge of ASP is a plus.
- 2+ years working professionally in a comparable position and/or significant record of related academic accomplishment.
