“Order In The Court!”
Announcing an exciting new project from Catholic Answers
designed to restore moral sanity to the United States Supreme Court
and thereby to the whole country
Dear friend,
Without a doubt, the next twelve to twenty-four months are going to be a pivotal and decisive time in our nation’s history.
Why do I say that?
It’s because President Bush most likely will have the opportunity to appoint as many as four new Supreme Court justices due to the poor health of four of the current justices.
Chief Justice William Rehnquist has throat cancer.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg has cancer.
Sandra Day O’Connor has serious health problems.
John Paul Stevens is also in ill health.
So it’s just a question of when those four justices will retire.
When they are replaced, we are going to have a brand-new Supreme Court that, God willing, could reverse the destructive decisions that the Court has made during the last thirty-five to forty years.
I’m talking about, among other things, Roe v. Wade—the 1973 decision that decriminalized abortion in America and has resulted in the murder of more than 40 million American babies thus far.
That number is greater than the entire population of the state of California.
Imagine you woke up tomorrow morning to find that every man, woman, and child in California had been murdered the night before. Now imagine it was a Supreme Court decision that allowed that to happen.
Wouldn’t you say there’s something seriously wrong with such a decision—and that it’s high time to change it?
And what if—by spending just a few minutes of your time and a few dollars of your money—you could help change it and save the next 40 million people from being murdered?

Now I’m pleased to announce a brand-new campaign that Catholic Answers is launching—aimed at helping to get good justices to fill the four new Supreme Court slots that most likely will come open in the near future.
No, this is not a political campaign. Rather, it’s a campaign for the restoration of morality in America. More than any other single government institution, the U.S. Supreme Court has been responsible for the immoral direction that our nation has been heading in for the last several decades.
Consider …
- It was the Supreme Court that legalized abortion in Roe v. Wade in 1973.
- It was the Supreme Court that took away all restrictions on abortion in Doe v. Bolton, also in 1973.
- It was the Supreme Court that banned Christian prayer in public schools (Murray v. Curlett, 1963).
- It was the Supreme Court that struck down state laws against sodomy (Lawrence v. Texas, 2003).
- It was the Supreme Court that said partial-birth abortion must not be outlawed (Stenberg v. Carhart, 2000).
- It was the Supreme Court that banned peaceful pro-life demonstrations at abortion mills (Colorado v. Hill, 2000).
- It was the Supreme Court that allowed the Ten Commandments to be removed from public courthouses. (They refused to even hear Moore v. Glassroth in 2003.)
The list goes on and on.
For the last several decades the U.S. Supreme Court prided itself on judicial activism—where the justices don’t just decide whether the laws of our nation have been violated (their proper role) but go a giant step further and create new social policies to remold our nation nearer to their hearts’ desire.
And they are out of control.
They constantly strike down state and federal laws they don’t like but that were passed legitimately by legislatures or voters.
They constantly “reinterpret” and covertly amend the Constitution to mean things that our Founding Fathers never intended it to say. Some have described the Court as “an ongoing constitutional convention”—which in reality thwarts the democratic process by cutting out voters and legislators.
This judicial activism has to stop—because it’s taking our nation to the brink of disaster. Much judicial activism has followed a decidedly anti-Christian and anti-life agenda that is destroying the moral fabric of our nation.
That’s why Catholic Answers believes it’s morally imperative for us to get involved and take an active role in the fight to restore sanity at the Supreme Court.
And we’re going to do this from a Catholic perspective, using Church teaching as the moral high ground.
Catholic Morality
Is Our Only Hope
God commissioned the Catholic Church to announce his gospel and teach his laws to all mankind. He gave it the gift of infallibility to make sure that solemn Catholic moral teaching would be 100 percent faithful to his divinely revealed truths.
As Catholics, we have the moral obligation to see to it that the nation we live in—the nation that we love—follows God’s laws in the most important areas of morality.
We cannot, in good conscience, sit back and allow our nation’s leaders to destroy our country with things like legalized abortion, homosexual “marriage,” human cloning, embryonic stem cell research and euthanasia.
But up until now, most Catholics have been guilty of taking a back seat, remaining silent, refusing to act, being intimidated, and letting the forces of evil run roughshod over our nation.
But not any more!
With our new campaign—which we’re calling “Order in the Court”—we can now do something to impact the future moral direction of our country.
We already succeeded when, with the distribution of more than 10 million copies of our Voter’s Guide for Serious Catholics, we helped countless Catholics to vote their faith in the critically important elections of last November.
Now it’s time to influence the nomination and appointment process for Supreme Court justices, which all signs indicate will take place during the current Bush Administration.
Our “Order in the Court” Project is a two-part campaign.
Part One
First, we want to distribute millions of copies of a new white paper which was written recently by our chief apologist, Jimmy Akin. It is titled Supreme Injustice: The Looming Disaster in America’s Highest Court.
In this hard-hitting and informative white paper, Jimmy examines the problems with the Supreme Court’s judicial activism. He shows that, if we’re going to have any hope of turning our country around, we need to turn the Supreme Court around so that it reverses its most destructive decisions (such as Roe) and stops making any more such decisions.
Jimmy also points out that if we don’t get good justices appointed to the Supreme Court at this time, we will lose the Court and the country for the next several decades.
There’s a lot at stake, and this special alert tells you all about it.
Part Two
To encourage President Bush to nominate good candidates for the Supreme Court—and to encourage the Senate to vote for these good candidates—we will begin a massive postcard campaign that shows our elected representatives that we do not want “business as usual” in the Supreme Court.
Postcards are the perfect way to get our message to the President and the Senate. They’re inexpensive to produce, inexpensive to mail and because they are printed with an eye-catching color, they’re going to get noticed.
All you have to do is sign the cards, put postage on them, and drop them in the mail. Nothing could be easier.
I’ve included three sample postcards with this letter so that you can take action now toward restoring sanity at the Supreme Court.
But I also need to ask for your financial help to get this project off the ground and launched at an appropriately high level.
As we did with the voter’s guide campaign, we want to get our special alert, Supreme Injustice, distributed to millions of Catholics all around the country. It will show them why they need to take action by sending our postcards to their senators and President Bush.
But mailing it to millions of our fellow Catholics will cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Our supporters nationwide came through for us during the voter’s guide campaign—and it showed that this kind of campaign can be extraordinarily successful and make a real difference in America.
We believe our new “Order in the Court” Project will be just as successful. And it’s just as important—if not more so.

This is a historically unprecedented time for our country. Not in recent years has one president and one Senate had the opportunity to change the face of the Supreme Court so dramatically.
And as I’ve shown already, we need to change the Supreme Court!
