I can't call Michael Schwartz a friend. I last saw him in 1995, when I took my son to Washington, D.C. While there, Justin and I paid a visit to Schwartz. I don't recall what job he had at the time. Aside from a blackout in the third quarter and an impressive come-from-behind by the 49ers in the second half, one of the more memorable moments of this year’s Super Bowl was Beyoncé’s halftime show performance. Like the dyslexic atheist, I don’t believe in dog.

Apparently this puts me in a minority—and a perilous one at that. For among supporters of the notion, few subjects seem to arouse as much passion as the question of whether there are pets in heaven. I think I’d rather debate Android versus Apple, or argue for the merits of baby formula in a room full of La Leche Leaguers, than tell people that they won’t be spending the hereafter cuddled up with Fido.
