As a young Protestant, this was one of my favorites to ask Catholics. “Why do Catholics pray ‘repetitious prayer’ like the Rosary when Jesus says not to pray ‘vain repetitions’ in Matthew 6:7?”

I think we should begin here by quoting the actual text of Matt. 6:7:

And in praying do not heap up empty phrases (“vain repetitions” in KJV) as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard for their many words....

Can science find God? If God is defined as a being (or perhaps “the ground of being”) that is neither composed of matter nor confined to a spatial location, then the answer seems to be no. After all, science is limited to explaining the natural, physical world. If God exists beyond that world and is not composed of anything found within it, then he seems to be out of the reach of scientific inquiry.

But even if science can’t “find” God in the same way I can find my car in a parking...

I am always rather in awe of the spiritual lives of others, as they have been related to me. To hear some people tell it, they speak with God on a regular basis and are constantly being given direction on what they should do. God is quite busy in their lives, and they are extraordinarily open to receiving his consoling word. Yesterday was a balmy 103 degrees outside the Catholic Answers office, and today didn’t promise to be much cooler. If I wanted to exercise outdoors, it would have to be early, and so it was.

Before work I headed up nearby Kwaay Paay Peak. At 1,194 feet, it’s denominated a hill here, though east of the Mississippi it would be called a mountain. In Florida it might be named Mt. Gargantua because it’s more than three times as tall as that state’s high point, Britton Hill (345 feet)....

Cary Grant, Deborah Kerr, "An Affair to Remember"

A couple months ago I happened to catch the wonderful 1957 classic movie An Affair to Remember, starring Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr, on television. In a nutshell, the movie is about playboy Nick Ferrante (Cary Grant) and former nightclub singer Terry McKay (Deborah Kerr) who meet and fall in love while on a cruise ship sailing from Europe to New York.
