As a professional Catholic speaker I visit dozens of parishes every year. In addition to giving general talks, I am sometimes asked if I would be willing to speak to the children in the parish school. I always welcome the opportunity, especially when speaking to the lower grades, since I have five young children of my own.

I always ask the schoolchildren for a show of hands if a grownup has ever asked them,“What do you want to be when you grow up?”

Invariably, all hands go up....

Lent is just around the corner. In fact, Ash Wednesday is one week from today. Lent is chosen by many parishes as the ideal time to offer retreats, parish missions, and workshops. If you are planning such an event, I have a suggestion: Invite a Catholic Answers speaker to give talks on Vatican II and the Catechism. Doing so could have the added bonus of a plenary indulgence for attendees.

According to the Conference Board research group, only 45 percent of Americans are satisfied with their work. Only 51 percent claim they are even interested in their work. Both of these numbers are the lowest polled in the 22 years they've been researching the topic.
